Happy May, everyone! So I know this’ll be another long one, but here’s what I’ve been up to lately, and the goals I hope to achieve this month! I will admit, coming up to May was a little stress-inducing for me with it being the first anniversary of the wildfire that turned our world upside down last year. I found it really hard to be on Facebook and Twitter from about the middle of the last week of April until pretty much now. They were both filled with images of the day we had to pack up and leave, not knowing if…

January was… kind of a weird month in terms of goal setting and staying on track. I actually spent much of it in Ontario with Lil’ Ziggy, visiting friends and family. The last time I was there was also for about three weeks, and I couldn’t wait to get back to Alberta by the end of it. Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with friends and family, and they loved seeing Lil’ Ziggy both times. It was just so much time to be away from Chris, away from my regular routine, etc. This time was even worse, because…

October has been a busy month. I’m really getting used to living in Calgary, and I enjoy getting out with Lil’ Ziggy and exploring our neighbourhood and beyond. I’ve discovered some great places to take him once the weather gets cold. There certainly are things I miss about Fort McMurray, namely our church and the people in it, and the friends we left behind. It would have been a good place to raise Lil’ Ziggy because they try so hard to make it kid-friendly. But there’s just so much more to do here, there’s no denying it. So much variety. The…

A note before I begin my birth story: I’ll be posting my birth story in multiple parts, because TL;DR. While I’ll try to avoid the grossest details of my birth for the sake of family members who don’t need to know about my vagina, there will be some TMI shared in this post. Also, even though my baby has a real name, and that name is not Lil’ Ziggy, I will still refer to him as Lil’ Ziggy, Ziggy, or Zig, on my blog going forward. I hope that by doing so, I’ll be protecting his identity until he is old enough to…

Disclaimer: If you haven’t read Part 1 of my Birth Plan, please check it out. It explains why I chose to write a birth plan and how I hope it will help me during the birth experience. It also explains that my birth plan is flexible, meaning I’m not going to allow myself to get into an unsafe situation because I want to stick to the plan so badly. Birth plans can be a touchy subject and often work their way into the mommy wars. Everyone has different priorities, hopes and fears when it comes to birth. This is how…

I’ve made the executive decision to not post my regular weekly update this week. Lil Ziggy is fine and dandy, I’m just dead tired and can barely muster a smile tonight. If I receive a refreshing jolt of energy and feel like doing a bump pic tomorrow, I’ll put it up and share. Tonight, I thought I’d write up Part 1 of my Birth Plan. I’m doing it in two parts because I felt I needed to write about why I created a birth plan in the first place. After doing a superficial Google search of other bloggers’ birth plans, there…
