A good friend of mine posted this chart on her Facebook page today, and it really got me thinking (and angry). I’ve seen things like this elsewhere on the Internet, on mom blogs, Huffington Post, etc, and I fully believe it to be true. It’s not even about being “politically correct”, or the recipient of the question being “oversensitive” (hands up if you’ve been called that when someone hurt your feelings!). It’s about recognizing the simple yet oft-forgotten fact that thoughtless words can do so much harm. I’ve been guilty of this in the past. I once asked a coworker when she and her husband…

I’ve been out of touch. Between having Lil’ Ziggy, moving to Calgary and countless other “me” happenings, I have not paid enough attention to what is happening in the Middle East and Europe right now. I hear bits and pieces here and there, and my heart sinks. But I saw a photo yesterday, and my heart broke. He laid as Lil’ Ziggy does when he sleeps. I’m haunted now. When I saw the photo last night, I wanted to hold my son and never let him go. Zig was peacefully sleeping, so I waited until this morning. I’m consumed with…

Wow, I can’t believe another month has gone by. Much has happened over the past month, and once again I am amazed at all the changes I’ve seen in Lil’ Ziggy – how much he’s grown, how much he’s developed and how much more adorable he keeps on getting. (Ignore the dopey look on my face, I didn’t know this shot was being taken but it turned out great otherwise!) The biggest development we’ve had since my last baby update post is that Lil’ Ziggy can now roll from his front onto his back. He did it a few weeks…

They say that with a newborn, the days are long but the weeks are short. How true those words are! I gave birth to my son, Lil’ Ziggy, two months ago today. Two months ago, I was in a hospital room, swaying through contractions, miraculously avoiding swearing at everyone in my vicinity, and bringing a wonderful, crazy, healthy and bright little boy into the world. In these past two months, I have learned so much about my son, my husband and myself. By the way, I wanted to do a monthly update on Lil’ Ziggy, but sleepless nights took their…

I created this blog when I was a little more than halfway through my pregnancy, with the goal of sharing news of my life with friends and family all over Canada and the world. Now that Lil’ Ziggy is here, I’m hoping to start writing not only updates on his growth, but other posts about my home and lifestyle. My first step in that direction is this series on cloth diapers! Much like my birth plan, I researched cloth diapering long before I even got pregnant. I first learned about cloth diapering from other parenting blogs, and it really appealed to…

I think #1 on the Mommy War stage is breastfeeding. This post is not about slamming moms who choose to formula feed or cannot breastfeed for whatever reason. This is simply a post about my breastfeeding journey and how we can and should better support moms who wish to breastfeed. It is my hope that some women, even one woman, reads my story and comes away with more confidence in themselves to nurse. My story My breastfeeding journey is similar to many other moms. When asked if I planned to breastfeed, my answer was “I’ll try”. I signed up for free…
