My Birth Story – Part 2

Disclaimer: There’s so much judgement in the mom-blog world these days. Just like with my Birth Plan post, I ask that you practice understanding and grace for my decisions during my labour an birth.  If you missed Part 1 of Lil’ Ziggy’s birth story, go on and catch up. I’ll wait here! Now where was I? Oh yes. Where we left off, I had been admitted to the hospital. I had hoped to labour at home, but nothing seemed to be happening. Because my water had broken at 6 a.m. that morning, I had to start antibiotics at the 18-hr mark…

My Birth Story – Part 1

A note before I begin my birth story: I’ll be posting my birth story in multiple parts, because TL;DR. While I’ll try to avoid the grossest details of my birth for the sake of family members who don’t need to know about my vagina, there will be some TMI shared in this post. Also, even though my baby has a real name, and that name is not Lil’ Ziggy, I will still refer to him as Lil’ Ziggy, Ziggy, or Zig, on my blog going forward. I hope that by doing so, I’ll be protecting his identity until he is old enough to…

Pregnancy at its end: a mixed bag of emotions

My pregnancy is almost over. I can’t even say it’s been a long nine months. In reality, it’s flown by way faster than I thought it would. Each month flying past, over so soon that I have barely had time to really analyze my feelings. So here is my attempt at that now, with (hopefully) only days left. Happy and Sad at the same time I think this one is fairly common – I’m happy that the wait is almost…

My Birth Plan – Part 2

Disclaimer: If you haven’t read Part 1 of my Birth Plan, please check it out. It explains why I chose to write a birth plan and how I hope it will help me during the birth experience. It also explains that my birth plan is flexible, meaning I’m not going to allow myself to get into an unsafe situation because I want to stick to the plan so badly. Birth plans can be a touchy subject and often work their way into the mommy wars. Everyone has different priorities, hopes and fears when it comes to birth. This is how…

    Warnings vs. Encouragement

I loved this blog post that my friend shared with me about the “warnings” we get when we’re expecting. It was so uplifting and encouraging. My friend and I were chatting yesterday about all the awful things people say to pregnant women and new moms, even with the best intentions. I am so excited to become a mom, to experience all the great things that come along with parenthood. That doesn’t mean I’m blissfully unaware that challenges lie ahead. I am aware that there will be many days when I’m tired, unwashed and overwhelmed. I haven’t experienced it yet, but that doesn’t…
